Shakespeare Meets Scholars of Colour
Our podcast series “Shakespeare Meets Scholars of Colour” demonstrates the relevance of Shakespearean space to the audiences of colour. Our research examines Shakespeare through the philosophical and political debates particularly developed by the contemporary transcultural adaptations of Shakespearean dramaturgy. Shakespearean plays explore the intersections of literature, social constructs, law, and philosophy. To highlight the relevance of Shakespearean plays to people of colour, the speakers shed light on the ideological constraints and political practices, Freudian and Kristevian psychoanalysis, patriarchy and the fourth wave of feminism, existentialist and stoical tendencies, and theatricalized trials of justice. Shakespeare’s plays have drawn a renewed interest due to the digital turn in humanities. Amidst recent criticism, our podcast explores the early modern notions of monarchy, leadership, cosmic realm, and so on. So, join us on this intellectual odyssey from the Shakespearean world to the present for a thought-provoking and insightful experience that transcends spatial and temporal concerns of early modern England. We look forward to meet Shakespeare to make ourselves heard within his global scholarship.
